The Program

Small scale, 10kW or less projects, for homeowners and farmers.

Medium to large scale projects, more than 10kW, for property and business owners.

The microFIT & FIT (Feed-In-Tariff) programs were introduced in 2009 by the Ontario Government as a part of the Green Energy Act. It promotes renewable energy among the homeowners and business owners of Ontario by allowing them to sell solar energy to the grid at a fixed rate, secured by a 20-year government-backed contract with the Ontario Power Authority.

FIT Price Schedule (Effective January 1, 2014)

Type Project Size FIT Price (¢/kWh) Duration of the contract
Solar Rooftop ≤ 10 kW 39.6 20 years
> 10 ≤ 100 kW 34.5
> 100 ≤ 500 kW 32.9
Solar Ground Mount ≤ 10 kW 29.1
> 10 ≤ 500 kW 28.8

These programs are designed for two different scale applications. Homeowners and small property owners will appreciate the higher tariff offered by the microFIT program, which is limited by 10kW in size (40 panels). On the other hand, larger property and business owners can enjoy large scale systems at a lower rate per kWh generated.
